The year 2025 marks a very special time for us: In 2000, Danish journalist Lisbeth Kirk founded EUobserver as one of the first news websites focused on EU affairs.
And after a quarter-century, which included ups and downs, huge shifts in platforms, reader preferences, and funding opportunities, we’re proud to say that we’re not just still alive, but also kicking, as one of the best-trusted EU media, delivering stories that matter for both professionals and the wider public.
An anniversary like this calls for celebration.
That’s why, over this year, we’ll be publishing some of the best investigations, analyses, and opinions that we’ve ever had, from journalists, academics, activists, and policy makers who we’re proud to have worked with.
Our anniversary falls due in September, which we aim to mark with events that highlight the importance of independent journalism in Europe – more details and invitations to our readers and contributors to follow.
I can’t stress enough how happy I am personally to have become part of EUobserver, one of the few pan-European media which provides a home for creative and empathetic journalism, and which scrutinises how EU decisions impact real people and their environment.
